A positive percent change means an increase, a negative value means a decrease. Zero means no change.

Formulas used

  • Percent change = ((New − Original) ÷ Original) × 100%
  • New value after increase = Original × (1 + %Increase ÷ 100)
  • Original value before increase = New ÷ (1 + %Increase ÷ 100)
  • If Original = 0 and New ≠ 0, the percent change is undefined (division by zero).

How to Calculate Percentage Increase?

Percentage increase is one of those things we all deal with in everyday life-but almost nobody likes to calculate it. Prices go up, bills change, salaries rise, products get more expensive, grades improve… and all of a sudden you're just stuck there, wondering:

“Okay, but by how much exactly?”

Instead of reaching for a calculator or trying to remember a school formula, here's an easy, human-friendly explanation of how percentage increase works-plus how our calculator makes it all effortless.

What Does Percentage Increase Mean?

Percentage increase is just the amount of growth something has experienced compared to where it started.

If something goes from 80 to 100:

It increased by 20

But how big is that 20?

Is that a huge increase, or a small one?

Percentage increase gives you the real answer.

It translates the change into a clean, easy-to-understand number — something like 25% increase — which feels much more meaningful than just “it increased by 20.”

The Basic Formula (Explained Like You're 12)

Here's the classic formula:

Percentage Increase = (Increase ÷ Original Value) × 100

Let's break it down:

Find the variation

New value − Original value

Example: 100 - 80 = 20

Divide it by the original value

20 ÷ 80 = 0.25

Turn it into a percentage

0.25 × 100 = 25%

That's it.

But you don't have to do any of this by hand; all steps are done instantaneously by our calculator.

Calculating Percentages of Various Kinds

There are three main situations people run into, and we have designed the calculator to handle each.

✔ 1. You are looking for the percent increase between two numbers

Example:

“It was 80 before, now it is 100. How much did it increase in percentage?

Just enter the original and new values — the calculator immediately shows you:

The percentage change

The level of change

Be it an increase or decrease.

✔ 2. You are looking for the new value after applying a percentage

Example:

"My salary is growing by 10%. What will be my new salary?

You enter:

Original value

Percentage Increase

The calculator outputs:

New value

How much it increased

Total percentage change

✔ 3. You want to find what the original value was before an increase

Example:

This item, after a 25% increase, costs 100. What was the price before?

You enter:

New value

Percent Increase

The calculator works backwards and will tell you the original price.

A Real, Everyday Example

Suppose your bill for electricity goes up from ₹800 to ₹1,000.

You want to know:

“What’s the percentage increase?”

Using the formula:

Increase = 1000 − 800 = 200

200 ÷ 800 = 0.25

0.25 × 100 = 25%

Using the calculator:

Type 800 → 1000 → Solve → Percentage Increase = 25%

Done in one second.

Much simpler.

Salary Increase

Another Example:

Suppose your salary is ₹40,000 and you get an increase of 15%.

You type:

Original = 40,000

Percent increase = 15

The calculator gives you:

New value = ₹46,000

Increase = ₹6,000

Percent change = 15%

Simple. Obvious. No work.
