Height Calculator

Height Calculator

Convert between feet+inches, inches, centimeters, and meters. Exact factors: 1 in = 2.54 cm, 1 ft = 12 in, 1 m = 100 cm.
Enter a value and click Calculate

How the height converter works

  1. You enter a value. It can be split into feet and inches or a single number in inches, centimeters or meters.
  2. Choose your unit. Pick the unit you’re starting with and the unit you’d like as the main result; the converter will show all four for context.
  3. Hit “Calculate.” It first normalizes everything to inches—multiplying feet by 12 or dividing centimeters by 2.54—then converts to the other units.
  4. Tidy up. The result is rounded to the number of decimal places you prefer, whether that’s a whole number or a couple digits for more precision.

If your version of the tool also shows additional units, it quietly hops through inches and centimeters to keep the math exact.

Examples

  • 5 ft 7 in to cm: 5 feet × 12 = 60 inches; 60 + 7 = 67 inches; 67 × 2.54 = 170.18 cm.
  • 170 cm to ft+in: 170 ÷ 2.54 = 66.929 in; 66 in = 5 ft with 6.93 in left, so roughly 5 ft 6.93 in.
  • 1.70 m to ft+in: 1.70 m = 170 cm (see above) = 5 ft 6.93 in.
  • 50 cm to ft+in: 50 ÷ 2.54 ≈ 19.69 in; that’s 1 ft 7.69 in.

When should you use each unit?

  • Feet + inches: Great for everyday conversation in imperial countries or for height charts at home.
  • Inches: Useful when you need fine resolution in imperial units (e.g., carpentry).
  • Centimeters: Standard for medical forms, school projects, clothing sizes and scientific work.
  • Meters: Handy for sports and outdoor activities (e.g., altitude, rope lengths).

Rounding without headaches

The converter calculates in full precision and only rounds for display. If you don’t want long decimals cluttering your screen, set the decimal places to 0–2 for clean, readable results. Need engineering-level detail? Bump it to 3–4 places. Pro tip: let the tool do the math, then round the final number.

Common mix‑ups

  • Result looks way off? You might have multiplied when you should have divided. Remember: to go ft → cm, convert to inches then multiply by 2.54; to go cm → ft, divide by 2.54 first.
  • Entered the wrong unit? If you typed a value in cm but selected inches, just switch the dropdown and calculate again.
  • Negative numbers? The converter expects non‑negative heights; be sure to enter positive values.

Tiny cheat sheet

  • 1 in = 2.54 cm
  • 1 ft = 12 in
  • 1 m = 100 cm = 39.37 in
  • 1 ft ≈ 0.3048 m

Bottom line

Type your number, pick your unit and let the converter handle the multiplications or divisions. It’s a fast, clean and accurate way to move between imperial and metric units, perfect for school, travel, DIY projects or any situation where heights are measured.
